Wellness Massage
This massage helps relieve the stresses and tensions of everyday living by inducing relaxation and decreasing corticosteroids within the body.
Massage has an immense impact on the circulatory system, increasing blood flow to all of the organs, muscles, joints, etc. It also affects the lymphatic system. It increases lymph flow helping to rid the body of unwanted toxins.
The Musculoskeletal system is affected in many ways through massage. Range of motion is increased and resting tone is decreased or increased depending on what is needed.
Promoting general well being, enhancing self-esteem, spurring the circulatory system to benefit blood pressure, muscle tone, skin tone, digestion and boosting immune systems can be accomplished by massage.
With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important people take more responsibility for their own health care needs. Wellness massage helps us to cope on a physical, mental and emotional level thereby encouraging us to heal and maintain health in all areas of our lives.
Wellness Massage Treatments
- Relaxation Massage – Swedish massage techniques are used to perform a partial or full body treatment. Pressure is applied according to your preference and essential oils may be added as well to enhance the treatment.
- Reflexology/Feet Massage – This type of massage deals with the feet. The theory is that there are many reflex points in the feet that connect to the organs and glands of the whole body therefore by simply massaging the feet, the whole body is accessed and relaxed. This treatment also comes with optional essential oil wrap where the feet are wrapped in hot essential oil towels.
- Chair Massage – This massage is designed for people who do not have a lot of time to relax. It’s done on an ergonomically designed chair that evens the weight of the body in a sitting position. This position allows the practitioner access to the back, neck, shoulders and arms to provide a quick 10 – 20 min treatment. There’s no need for clothes to be taken off and no oils are used. Most people love coming for this treatment during their lunch breaks or on their way home from work.
- Hot Stones Massage – In hot stone massage, stones of all shapes and sizes are used. These stones are heated to varying temperatures before you arrive for the actual massage. The temperature usually ranges from 0- to 140- degrees Fahrenheit. While waiting on these stones to reach such desired temperature, you will be treated with an aromatherapy oils to create the desired mood.
The therapist will then apply some traditional Swedish strokes, while holding a heated stone. The stone will only be replaced once it cools. Also, the therapist may leave the stones in certain areas of the body, particularly along your spine. Sometimes, the stones are placed on your hands, or between your toes to enhance the energy flow in the body.
What can I expect in a Wellness Massage session?
Upon your arrival at Medspa Health Centre an intake form is completed, followed by a discussion of your goals for the wellness massage, which sets the course for the session.
All wellness massage sessions are tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. A brief consultation is, therefore, essential to better understand your needs and preferences.
After this consultation the session will be proceeded to massage itself.
During wellness massage the practitioner will use their hands to apply pressure to the body.
The application and the effect is unique to each person. The pressure may vary but at all times it is important that you are comfortable with pressure, as relaxation is the primary goal of wellness massage, and you need to feel comfortable in order to relax in your session. If it is not comfortable for you, you should ask your practitioner to decrease the amount of pressure that they are using.
Can wellness massage do me any serious harm?
No. It is harmless. Wellness massage practiced with common sense is completely safe. Practitioner uses palliative non-invasive techniques, most of which are Swedish massage techniques. It simply relaxes the body, which allows it to function more effectively. The results can be amazing.
Are there any reasons I would not be able to have a wellness massage?
There are a number of factors that preclude massage, for example if you are ill and/or have a fever. People with some conditions (such as cancer) may have wellness massage only with consent from their GP.
If a licensed health care provider such as a medical or naturopathic doctor is managing your condition, it is important that you discuss the consequences of any therapy (including wellness massage) with this person before you commence a session.
Many people use wellness massage as a complement to health practices such as therapeutic massage, acupuncture and chiropractic.
Who can benefit from massage?

What is a difference between wellness massage and therapeutic massage?

RMTs use therapeutic techniques while non-registrants use palliative, non-invasive techniques. Therapeutic and potentially harmful techniques are not used during wellness massage.
Also, non-registrant will not work with injured, damaged or painful areas as it poses a risk of harm.
Please note that insurance companies do not reimburse money for wellness massage service provided by non-registrants.
